Susie Bright upon the event of Andrea Dworkin’s death:
“She got stuck, and then she got sick, and when you’re famous for one thing, no one wants to see you change unless you reject it all, like a pathetic sinner seeking redemption.”
Which makes me think of Firestone, and how much more I respect her because of what followed the book she wrote at 25. Not that she rejected her prior activism in search of redemption per se, but that she did reject it (so understandably) after her immense energy and intelligence didn’t ultimately change the world. I think we do get stuck, and we do get sick, and very few of us round out happily.
