Each evening now my largely-American Twitter feed goes wild, and I have to avoid the whole thing entirely. It begins to approximate how I feel viewing a major sporting event as it gets quipped about in real time. My (American!) friend offers his opinion: “I really don’t understand why people seem so genuinely invested in every speech.” The Obamas are celebrities right?
