For the first 24 seconds of “Starlight,” I thought Taylor Swift hadn’t just gone a bit Max Martin, but the full Dave Audé (spoiler alert: she hasn’t).

In other Taylor Swift news, “Stay Stay Stay” is very jaunty, but doesn’t the guy Taylor’s so keen on sound like the worst sort of passive-aggressive nice-guy jerk?

There are so many aspects of TS I appreciate, but I do tend to veer off when she starts describing men of romantic interest. I guess it only makes sense that most of them are viewed in terms of “You’re the worst,” or “You’re a bad idea/trouble,” but I mean, as evinced by “Stay Stay Stay,” I don’t know if that’s a cycle we grow from too quickly.
